He will get more beautiful the longer you have him. I got my betta when I swear he called to me from the other end of the store. I only planned to buy ferret food and stay out of the fish section! They had so many that were beautiful, but it was Petey who called my name. And he definitely wasn't pretty. The color of mud actually! What can I say? He spoke to me. But since he is now in a 10 gal tank, gets good food and good care, he turned from mud colored to black and blue, he is also a crowntail. And have his fins grown! Just like long ribbons flowing along behind him. He also has a very laid back personality. I put a ghost shrimp in the tank, figuring he would probably eat him. Nope, they get along fine. The only time Petey ever even noticed him was when the shrimp had a piece of algae wafer that the betta wanted. He got chased all over the tank, with the shrimp swimming backward with the wafer in his little paws, but the shrimp won! Good luck with your betta. Beautiful, interactive fish. Just don't let his smiles and wiggles entice you into overfeeding. They are good at that!
